This week the Penryn Camera Club met on Tuesday evening as our venue is being used as a polling station on Thursday. This meant several members were unable to attend as they had existing commitments. They missed a treat.

Professional photographer Derek Godridge LRPS AFIAP spoke about basic Photoshop Elements editing. Some of our members believe editing is wrong and will not use an editor. Some still use and develop their own films. This is fine, it’s a valid viewpoint, and we have a section in all our competitions to cater for this view.

Some members, however, don’t edit because they believe it is too difficult, or too expensive. By starting with a cheap editor, and mentioning free editors, Derek showed how simple editing starting with the “auto” button dramatically altered an image. Dark images, even JPGs can be saved and the best images enhanced. Derek moved on to basic layers, masking and adjustments to show how enhancing or reducing different portions of an image showcases the subject. He dropped in a few advanced techniques to cover his entire audience.

It’s fair to say we all learned something, and several non-editors (or reluctant editors) now have some knowledge to experiment with their own images.

Next week we look forward to Helen Davis’ talk on her photographs. See our future events here;
