Paradise Park-Hayle Sunday 10th July – Report by Karen Burton

We met at Paradise Park bright and early, well 10.30am! Paul rocked up in style on his impressive Harley Davidson. He must have been cooking in those leathers!

We met at Paradise Park

The park is home to a plethora of birds, all sorts of colours and breeds, such a wonderful assortment.

We were all thrilled by the Bird of Prey show - the birds looked in beautiful condition and the keepers were very mindful of the hot weather conditions, so they kept the flights short for each bird. There was a Bald Headed Eagle, a type of Kookaburra and a carrot for anyone who can remember the other two!

There was a penguin feeding show which I missed because I was intrigued with the Flamingos. They are such strange creatures. It is unusual how they feed. Their heads are upside down and they suck up the water. Quite funny to watch.

The park itself has lovely tropical plants and the parrots fly freely through the trees making a terrible squawking noise. Worse than the seagulls! Lots of vibrantly coloured flowers to enjoy too.

Lorikeet feeding

The highlight of the day was the Lorikeet feeding. These small brightly coloured birds are addicted to the nectar they put in the pots. At £1.25 for a tiny amount, they must be the most expensive birds to keep! It was good fun though when they land on your head! Ally was desperate to get one on her head. Eventually Ally got her wish and was thrilled. Luckily a few of us were on hand with our cameras to capture it. Eve was photographed by the park to put on their facebook page! Her 5 minutes of fame for this week.

We sat outside for lunch and got food from the café which wasn’t too badly priced I thought. A range of sandwiches and jacket potatoes.

Everyone said they enjoyed it. As always, great company and fun to be out and about with our cameras. Don’t get too worried folks for the upcoming competitions. It was great to practice fast shutter speed! It is a learning curve which I am enjoying. I will go back and try again. Every day is a school day as Victor says.
