Newsletter NL137 – 4th November 2022

Editor - Derek Godridge and contributions from Paul, Wendy and the team:

PCC News – Paul Cooper

  1. GREAT NEWS: Our website is finally up and running. If you have bookmarked us please update the link, otherwise, show us some love and visit penryncameraclub.co.uk.

  2. This week Derek Godridge discussed some of the challenges of using older photography kit; smaller/old tech/dusty sensors, out-of-camera JPG halo-ing and the challenges of older lenses. Derek moved into Photoshop Elements (a Photoshop derivative) and showed us some simple ways to overcome these issues. He also showed some re-sizing, straightening and contrast correction options. The talk was pitched towards new editors but contained a few nuggets for advanced users. Derek finished his talk with images showing pre- and post-editing to showcase editing software, one aspect of the art of photography.#

Example of the benefit of editing

Committee Meeting Actions agreed as follows:

  • The portable hard disc drive (HDD) required to store all our PCC Committee meeting minutes etc has been purchased by Paul. Wendy to download all available PCC history.

  • As above our new web site is up and running using the new domain name shown. This newsletter to be used to advise members and to ask them to click on the (safe) link to enable Google to see “traffic” going to the site and hence it will begin to rise in any Google search for our club rather than the old website.

  • Geoffrey is currently building a new print display stand which will hopefully be available in time for the Three-Way Battle coming up in a few week's time.

  • We have now photocopied the 2nd part of the PCC Welcome Pack and newer members requiring a copy are asked to email Derek to request their copy.

  • Another reminder for members to please send in their stories of outings, trips and holidays they may have taken along with a 1⁄2 page of relevant text. Can members please send them to Derek for publication in the Newsletter.

  • More club badges are on order.

  • The WCPF Dpic competition preparatory evening is arranged so we have a run through of images for it. Paul will be in charge of the practice run, hopefully in Feb. (The link for more information is here) https://www.thewcpf.com/dpic

  • The committee agreed that we need amplification for judges and speakers and a dry run of existing equipment took place last night.

  • Photo selection evening to be held soon to facilitate the upcomingThree-Way Battle with Falmouth and Truro.

  • Next Committee meeting Dec 12th if Football Club free.
