Newsletter NL148 – 20h January 2023

Editor - Derek Godridge and the team: PCC News : We had a very interactive meeting last where we critiqued one another’s images. Members got into the swing of the evening very easily and many good suggestions were offered up regarding “improvements” which could be made. Some of the suggestions included:

  • Take several shots of the scene at various apertures in order to provide variations of depth of field

  • Under-exposing a shot by at least one stop when you have a small area of white in an image to avoid burned-out areas or even two stops if you have say, an Egret in sunlight !

  • Similarly, set up the “highlight alert” function on your back screen to warn you of this issue by flashing the overexposed area

  • When you have a pleasant scene in front of you, work that scene from different angles to give yourself a choice of viewpoint

  • Watch out for too much overhanging, unsupported vegetation which could overwhelm the main subject

  • Avoid any overlapping of human or animal elements in an image, where relevant

  • Look around your scene for any detritus that really shouldn’t be in the shot and finally ......

  • Crop, crop, crop to focus the viewer’s attention !

Some Musings:
