Newsletter NL149 – 27th January 2023

Editor - Derek Godridge and the team: PCC News :

We had a really interesting talk from Paul Cooper last night relating to the potential for the club to enter next year’s WCPF Kingswood Salver. As mentioned last week it is a very prestigious competition and Paul explained the rules of the competition along with some test “examples” he had made up using some of our own images as inspiration.

Basically the idea is to have a panel of 5 images from 5 different photographers and Paul’s examples using some of our own images illustrate some potential approaches.

As Paul laid out last night: A rough plan is (open to adjustments):

  • End Jan the club aware of the intent, and opted in

  • By end Feb finish canvassing suggestions for a topic and make that firm.

  • Mar-Sept Members provide entries

  • Early Oct perhaps have a club competition to choose the best images

  • Mid October mount into a set and enter.

  • Mid November win the Salver :-)

Possible topics (more wanted); Sunrise to Sunset In the woods Cornish traditions Cornish stone Cornish Gardens e.g. Trellissick Tin mines Tropical plants in Cornwall Gaff Riggers in Carrick Roads If you have any ideas please forward them to Paul.

Some Musings:

  • As mentioned last night regarding the Knightshayes Trophy. Any member can enter up to TWO prints for free. Usual conditions apply, all your own work etc and mounted in a 40cm x 50cm mount. Subject “Decisive Moment” to be handed to ME by Thursday 2nd absolute latest and I will ensure they get to Brian Galbraith who will take them to the WCPF meeting on the 5th February in time for judging.

  • Entries MUST be indentified on the reverse with a white label top right hand corner with the “Title, Your Name, Penryn Camera Club”. They must be accompanied by a completed form as included with the Email that accompanies this Newsletter.

Last week I went out to Godrevy Headland and saw about 120+ seals at the bottom of the 150ft cliffs so some of you might want to go just for the experience if nothing else.
