Newsletter NL153 – 24th February 2023

Editor - Derek Godridge and the team: PCC News:

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the KF2 Hand-In last night. Afterwards, we had a superb show by Jeanette Ruberry on her wonderful tour through the island of Cuba. All of our members were entertained by Jeanette’s presentation and repartee!

Cuba is the renowned location for Street Photographers and Jeanette’s images certainly didn’t disappoint us. We saw images from right across this 1000 mile long island which superbly showcased the country and its wide variety of people. Thank you Jeanette for a super show and we look forward to another one from your amazing Globe-trotting adventures.

News from Paul Cooper: Kingswood Salver progress

Kingswood Salver 10%

The club have decided to enter this competition next November. If you missed the “what’s this” presentation look here. Current action; Members are to supply Paul with themes for five images by five photographers by Feb 23rd.

There is a website “space” to hold images under “Documents” as we build our entry for this competition. To see the subjects so far, and some temporary placeholder images, look here; https://www.penryncameraclub.co.uk/kscomp. Click the “Read Me” to see more info on initial options. THESE WILL BE REDUCED to one early in March.

There will be a high rejection rate for images. This is not a comment on the image or the photographer. The competition requires strict guidelines and an excellent image may not fit the other four. All your images can be used for other competitions and we have some interesting photo opportunities. _________ 2023/24 Organisation

It seems strange to be talking about 2024 but our 2023/24 season starts with a bang with both the President’s cup and the Ken Maynard cup romping in within a couple of meetings after we restart in September. You will need to be thinking about this through the summer as you take pictures.

To help there is an article in our Knowledge section “Competition files” which shows you the type of structure that is both helpful to you and to Mandy. For example; on the first competition you copy folder 1 Presidents cup and all its sub-folders and correctly sized and titled images to your memory stick and that is EXACTLY the data that makes Mandy’s life easier.

Competition file structure

If that paragraph is gobbledygook look under our Video section for a video on how to organise your computer. This explains, fairly simply, what a folder structure is and why it is worth the time to learn to use one. Finally, to save typing, you can download the whole structure as a ZIP file from our menu “External”.
