News from Jeanette Ruberry and her recent visit to Bristol:

PCC member Darren and myself were delighted to represent Penryn Camera Club at the recent inaugural Bob Faris Memorial Event, which took place in Bristol. Bob was a past President of the BPS who organised the special one-day event in his memory. Bob sadly passed away in 2021 but generously left a donation to facilitate this event.

There were two presentations. In the morning, Michael O’Sullivan, whose distinctive southern Irish brogue captivated me almost as much as his images! Michael’s topic was his Fallen Angels collection - a conceptual fantasy art series inspired by mythology, history, Renaissance painters, and the Baroque and Romantic eras.

Michael O’Sullivan

Stunning image followed stunning image and Michael told the story eloquently whilst peppering his explanations with humour which kept the audience amused and eager to learn more. He is a Fellow of the Irish Photographic Federation and a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society. Also a ‘jolly good fellow’ who was happy to chat and pose for my picture during the interval.

Joe has a background in fine arts, has written a number of books, and, is the co-owner of a gallery in Northallerton, North Yorkshire. He is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society. Again, he was happy to chat and pose for a picture. Seemingly, it was my day to ‘photograph the photographer’. It was a day well spent. Both gentlemen asked which camera club I was from - and both enthused about the wonderful county we all live in. It is hoped to run a similar event in the future and I would certainly be keen to make a return visit.
