PCC News:

New Season opening meeting

Wow, what a fantastic, positive and friendly evening we had last night! So great to see so many potential new members along with some lovely holiday reminder shots you brought along. Potential new members are all being copied in here on this Newsletter so we hope you enjoyed your evening and got a flavour of how the club works and what we do. We already have some folks who joined up last night so WELCOME to your new camera club!! For those still undecided, that’s fine because we would love to see you again. For new and returning members alike we know only too well how much there is to learn and we do appreciate that it is all a bit mind-boggling to start with, but please bear with us and with the help of the mentors and other members, you will gradually get the hang of it and hopefully join in the various official and social events Karen has so brilliantly planned for us!

Who is for lunch?

Karen asking who might be interested in joining us for a lunch!

Membership Fees:

Don’t forget that this season’s fees are now due and if you want to enter any competitions or represent the club, you need to be fully paid up.

If you cannot get to the club in person to pay and wish to pay remotely that’s fine and the details of paying are as follows: Reference your payment “PCC Mem Fee Bank Account Name: Penryn Camera Club, Account No: 00544956, Sort Code: 30 98 57

More Tall Ships – From Chris Saint

It was a busy week for club members with the activity surrounding the Tall Ships event, starting with a reccy on Tuesday by Karen Burton, our events secretary. Many of us gathered on Wednesday evening for time aboard some of the Tall Ships, where my pictures were taken on a fine sunny evening. As can be seen a moderate wind kept the huge Mexican flag flying. Some members returned on Thursday for a boat trip round the bay which was a bit too much for me, but we have seen some good pictures on Facebook and WhatsApp. The week should have culminated in a parade of sail on Friday afternoon, but that was sadly cancelled due to storm Betty and atrocious weather.

Good News:

Mounts Reminder: Thanks to club member Julie, we now have an excellent source of white mounts and backing boards sized for A3 prints. It was only a trial batch of 20 off, so these are now available for members at virtually the cost price of £3. If you want any let me know and I’ll reserve them for you, but I think they will go quickly at this price.

Prints: I have negotiated with Booths Printers at The Praze, Penryn TR10 8AA and they are happy to print onto uncoated or silk paper at £1 per A3 size & cheaper for A4. The only proviso is to be reasonable and take in 4 or 5 images for printing at the same time. Just say Derek of Penryn Camera Club sent you !!

As Wendy mentioned last night The Fire Brigade would LOVE to have some of our photos for their social notice board as it all helps to show their interactions with the local community so if you have any please send them to Paul.

PCC Meetings Diary Dates:

  • Reminder: the 2023-24 Programme is on your USB Drive and our website.

  • Next Meeting Thursday 14th at 7.30pm Next week will be an Information evening with Paul Cooper when he will better explain some basic image preparation and storage aspects and probably give a quick wiz around our very comprehensive website for new and returning members.

  • Thursday 21st September at 7.30pm – President’s Cup & Ken Maynard Shield Hand-In As mentioned last night our competitions are rapidly approaching already and you have less than TWO weeks to get your prepared for both the Ken Maynard Trophy and the President’s Cup.

All details are contained within the USB Thumb Drive I have handed out over the last few weeks. Basically, you need to do the following: o Select the image you want to fulfill the competition rules IAW the latest rules sheet on your USB Drive. o Size the files appropriately for either Digital Projected Image (DPI) and/or Print and get them printed A4 or A3. NB Your FULL SIZE file should be fine for prints up to A3 and certainly OK for A4. o For prints, securely mount them in a 40cm x 50cm A3 or A4 window mount. o For both identify them as per our rules with either labels at top right hand corner on reverse of print OR for DPI add the appropriate file extension e.g. The Sea-234-PenrynCC. o Remember for prints we also need a small file size 1600px x 1200px for landscape format or 1200 px high max for Portrait format image saved onto your USB Drive in the “Print” sub-folder. o For both “Edited DPI” and “Off-Camera DPI” they need to be saved into the relevant sub-folder. o Print off the appropriate “Hand-In sheet” from your USB Drive found under the “2023-24 Composite Hand In Sheet” folder and complete it with your various entries. Use this as an aide-memoir and bring it along to the Hand-In to complete your titles on the relevant Competition Entries listings laid out by Amanda on the night. ▪ Bonus Tip – use the Aide-Memoir to record judges comments and keep as a personal record ! o On Hand-In night, place your Prints in the correctly marked print box and your USB Drive in the identified collection box. o Finally – PLEASE ensure your USB Drive is identified with your Club Number Only on the attached key fob !

Monday 30th October 7 for 7.30pm – PCC Vs St Ives CC Inter-Club Competition This is NOT on your programme but please support your club by offering up images and prints for selection and attending if possible. Save fuel by Car-Sharing if possible please.
