Newsletter NL172 – Friday 15th September 2023

PCC News: Well what another brilliant meeting last night with so many new and potentially new members. I truly believe the last two meetings to be the most successful in terms of recruitment that we have ever experienced in our history !! So again a HUGE WELCOME to you all.

As you will discover we run a very open and friendly club and please note that there is NO such thing as “A stupid question”! The field of photography and its varied genres and editing options continue to expand and broaden and No-one can be expected to know it all. However within our club we have a wide variety of knowledge and experience so if we can possibly help, we will and if we can’t we’ll find someone (or YouTube tutorial) who can!

Last night’s meeting had Paul giving us an excellent update on the club website which can be found here: https://www.penryncameraclub.co.uk

Of particular note were all the excellent photographic guides and tips which are found under the “Knowledge” section below. Any issues whatsoever or queries/clarification do NOT be afraid to ask: https://www.penryncameraclub.co.uk/knowledge

Paul also reminded us of our intention to enter the Western Counties Photographic Federation WCPF, Kingswood Salver competition and the details are here: https://www.penryncameraclub.co.uk/kscomp

If you didn’t grab a Programme yet, pick one up next week from Karen Burton our programme secretary. In the meantime as Paul mentioned last night, you can always find it here: https://www.penryncameraclub.co.uk/progamme

Also you can click on any of the Calendar Dates to find more Live information.

Membership Fees:

REMINDER - Don’t forget that this season’s fees are now due and if you want to enter any competitions or represent the club, you need to be fully paid up. If you cannot get to the club in person to pay and wish to pay remotely that’s fine and the details of paying are as follows: Reference your payment “PCC Mem Fee Bank Account Name: Penryn Camera Club, Account No: 00544956, Sort Code: 30 98 57 Good News:

Mounts Reminder: Thanks to club member Julie, we now have an excellent source of white mounts and backing boards sized for A3 prints. It was only a trial batch of 20off, so these are now available for members at virtually cost price of £3.

We are looking to order some A4 versions but need your gauge any interest. Please let us know if you would be interested and if so we’ll order them.

Prints:

Unfortunately the deal I thought I had with Booth’s isn’t quite what I agreed with Peter! I visited today and after a more detailed discussion, a few issues were raised and so they are going to try and come up with another solution.

However he did raise a valid point regarding creating your file as a print-ready A3 / A4. I have had some thoughts about this and have created a tutorial which you will find on our website under the “Knowledge” section entitled “How to Create an A3 A4 Print”.

In the meantime I would try your local supplier, whoever they are OR the one guaranteed excellent supplier who has been printing my work for years, DS Colour Labs website at: https://dscolourlabs.co.uk

I have also created a Tutorial for uploading your A3/A4 prepared print a that can also be found in the “Knowledge” section of our website entitled “How to Use DS Colour Labs Website

PCC Meetings

Diary Dates:

  • Next Meeting - Thursday 21st September at 7.30pm – President’s Cup & Ken Maynard Shield Hand-In As detailed by Karen last night our competitions are rapidly approaching already and you have less than ONE week to get prepared for both the Ken Maynard Trophy and the President’s Cup. All details are contained within the USB Thumb Drive you should have. Basically you need to do the following: o Select the image you want to fulfill the competition rules IAW the latest rules sheet on your USB Drive. o Size the files appropriately for either Digital Projected Image (DPI) and/or Print and get them printed A4 or A3. NB Your FULL SIZE file should be fine for prints up to A3 and certainly OK for A4. o For prints, securely mount them in a 40cm x 50cm A3 or A4 window mount. o For both identify them as per our rules with either labels at top right hand corner on reverse of print OR for DPI add the appropriate file extension e.g. The Sea - 234 - PenrynCC. o Remember for prints we also need a small file size 1600px x 1200px for landscape format or 1200 px high max for Portrait format image saved onto your USB Drive in the “Print” sub-folder. o For both “Edited DPI” and “Off-Camera DPI” they need to be saved into the relevant sub-folder. o Print off the appropriate “Hand-In sheet” from your USB Drive found under the “2023-24 Composite Hand In Sheet” folder and complete it with your various entries. Use this as an aide-memoir and bring it along to the Hand-In to complete your titles on the relevant Competition Entries listings laid out by Amanda on the night.  Bonus Tip – use the Aide-Memoir to record judges comments and keep as a personal record ! o On Hand-In night, place your Prints in the correctly marked print box and your USB Drive in the identified collection box. o Finally – PLEASE ensure your USB Drive is identified with your Club Number Only on the attached key fob !

Thursday 28th September at 7.30pm Presentation Evening with Nicola and her reptiles & friends !

This will be an opportunity (of a lifetime maybe) to get up close and personal with lizards, tarantulas, creepy crawlies etc ............... BUT with Health & Safety in mind if you are at all squeamish please think first before attending!

There will be several set ups around the room so plenty of opportunity to photograph these creatures so bring your cameras, flashes and a good close up lens.
