Newsletter NL174 – Friday 13th October 2023

Editor - Derek Godridge and the team: PCC News: • Another very well-attended meeting last night saw our local wildlife photographer Adrian Langdon give us a wonderful show of some of his River Camel images. The variety and mix of work demonstrated yet again the immense knowledge, skill and patience Adrian possesses which allows him to capture such an amazing array of local moorland, woodland and marine wildlife. Being a nature reserve warden, he also demonstrated his genuine love of our Cornish flora and fauna and a natural desire to conserve, protect and nurture it. So a huge thank you to Adrian for providing us with a superb evening full of interest and knowledge, both photographic and natural science.

• Last week’s meeting was also well supported and being lead by Paul Cooper our Vice- chair, members had the opportunity to see the images that the team had chosen for the Kingswood Salver competition and perhaps more importantly to discuss how the subject and the individual images had been selected. This was followed by a comprehensive Critique session of work that members had brought in. Both new and established members soon got into the swing of critiquing images which is so essential – especially when trying to assess one’s own work for competition.

As Paul mentioned the prints have to work as a panel and so will be presented as below and Titled as “Cornish Engine Houses through the Seasons”

  • Please remember next week is our VERY IMPORTANT first opportunity of the season to see the results of our photographic endeavours with both the President’s Cup and Ken Maynard Shield competitions being judged. Also, note that the following week (October 26th ) is the hand-in date for our Ken Farnell KF1 Competition and is a Themed subject which purposely aligns with the Western Counties Photographic Federation (WCPF) Knightshayes Trophy with the subject this year being “Water”.

  • If you didn’t grab a Programme yet, pick one up next week from Ray Bate but you can always find it here: https://www.penryncameraclub.co.uk/progamme Also you can click on any of the Calendar Dates to find more Live information.

  • Christmas is coming and so is our Christmas Lunch! Karen has received your thoughts and the consensus is that it will be at the Falmouth Golf Club – date TBC

Other Musings: I visited the quite stunning “Gaia Exhibit” which is literally floating in the nave of Truro Cathedral yesterday and I have to say that it is quite stunning to look up at the fragile planet on which we live. It’s quite something to sit and contemplate its significance to us so if you want to see it you have until 28th October.
