Newsletter NL185 – Friday 5th January 2024

Editor: Derek Godridge with assistance from Paul Cooper

I’m sure we are all looking forward to another great year of photography, so welcome everyone into 2024!

PCC News from Paul:

A combination of last-minute cancellations and illness sent the Penryn Camera Club scampering to fill this week’s meeting. John Yarrow and Derek Godridge filled the gaps with very little time to prepare.

John kicked off the evening with an in-depth review of the fish and creatures surrounding Falmouth wrecks and reefs. He included some of the issues of underwater filming, his equipment, and dozens of high-quality images. John has a quiet, confident, and vastly knowledgeable delivery style and answered many questions with ease.

Thank you John for a very interesting and fact-filled evening along with some fabulous photos. We look forward to another show in the near future.

After tea and biscuits, Derek took us through lighting using a small studio he set up. He started with the principles and then backed them up using Sue as a reluctant model. It was surprising how with minor tweaks to reflectors and modifiers or how even adding a reflective sheet of A4 paper the image was transformed.

Next week, after handing in our images for the next competition (mono only!) we will have the Western Counties travelling print roadshow to enjoy. It includes the winning images from county-wide competitions.
