Newsletter NL186 – Friday 12th January 2024

Editor: Derek Godridge with assistance from Paul Cooper

I was away on Judging duty this week at St Austell CC who had a “Battle” with a newly CPA- incorporated club Bodmin CC, hence I enclose Paul’s report from this week’s meeting.

See below in RED - A couple of dates for your diary 1) The CPA Charles Hosken presentation at Truro School is Saturday 3rd Feb and 2) The WCPF Members Exhibition is NOW open for entries

PCC News from Paul:

This week Penryn Camera Club enjoyed the Western Counties Photographic Federation (WCPF) Travelling Print Portfolio roadshow which is a set of prints selected from the images accepted for the Members Exhibition held in May 2023. This is circulated around clubs in the region, with each club handing the prints on to the next club following a pre-arranged rota. The prints are selected from the award-winning images and a representative selection of other accepted prints.

There were 74 prints in the selection this year, nearly half of all the prints “Accepted” for the exhibition at Bovey Tracey Golf Club. 58 clubs in the WCPF area have booked a slot for the Travelling Exhibition this year and it was our turn to have them this week as they move around the region.

This allows clubs to view and discuss a collection of high-quality prints at a minimal cost. Wendy Bate, our Chair led the group critique and as usual at Penryn, comments were varied and vocal - although there was a lot of laughter and it was great to see other club’s work.

Thanks also to everyone who handed in their images and prints for our upcoming KF2 Monochrome competition. They’ve already been passed on to Mandy who will tabulate them and get them to the judge. It should make for another interesting evening!

Next week we have a rare opportunity to tap Bruce Hobbs vast knowledge as he critiques member’s images - an ideal opportunity to tweak future competition candidates.
