Newsletter NL192 – Saturday 24th February 2024

Editor: Derek Godridge with more from Wendyl and Karen:

Just a personal note from me to thank members so much for honouring the passing of my dear mum Sheila Guyett by wearing something RED, she would be so thrilled to know that you did this. Thanks for the Great suggestion Carol !

Wear something red

PCC News:

Our Sincere wishes go to Derek and Janet this week, which is why we honoured Derek’s Mum Shelia by wearing red on Thursday 22nd the day of Sheila’s funeral. It was Carol’s idea which we thought was great to show our love and support. Wendy also mentioned Mark Stowe, Mark Quilter and Steve Clarke who have also lost their dear Mums recently.

Penryn CC would like to send you all our sincerest condolences.

Photography for Fun!

It was after talking to a photographer in Venice about photography and how we forget why we take photos. He was saying how we are always trying to please judges or emulate a certain style that might be on trend. Also talking to a friend she said about how our creative flow stops when we are put under constraints or pressure. This really struck a chord with me and got me thinking.

This is what made me think about our photography and how we are slightly programmed to please the judges a lot of the time, alongside using rules of composition about thirds or other photography conventions etc.

I just wanted us to forget about all the constraints and enjoy some images just for ourselves and remember why we took them and what emotions they conveyed at the time. I realise this might be controversial to some, but I am glad we had our relaxed evening of pure photography for fun! Everyone seemed to enjoy the relaxed approach and we learned more about our members who shy away from sharing their images.

Here are a few photos of the members just sharing their images telling us all about what they liked about the photo and where and why they took it.

Missed a meeting and wondered what happened? Google “Penryn Camera Club” and on the right-hand side of the screen you will see a box of club info.  Just scroll down to “Updates” and all will be revealed.  Magic!

Important Reminder - From Wendy Bate:

Hi Everyone,

Just a reminder that Maru – PCC Secretary, Chris – PCC Treasurer are standing down this year and so we URGENTLY need some members to volunteer to take over. We also need an additional Refreshment Organizer to ease the load and to introduce a rota system. Now NONE of these roles are particularly onerous or difficult as we already have the systems in place and the existing post holders are only too happy to assist with the change-over.

HELP !! So, if anyone is interested in putting their names forward for a Committee Position, please let me know if you are interested in the above vacancies. Our Committee get on so well together, organizing the programme for the enjoyment of the Members and we all get stuck in and help each other whenever anyone asks for help.

Remember, this is YOUR club, so it is up to you all to consider these vacant positions and

vote in your Committee at the AGM. If you are interested in putting your name forward for ANY Committee position, please let me know, in advance of the voting at the AGM in April, so you have plenty of time to think about it and ask any questions beforehand.

We cannot function properly without these positions being filled, so it really is important.

Many thanks, Wendy
