PCC News – 5th Sept Opening Meeting 2024-2025 season

Important: Membership fees are now due and anyone who hasn’t paid by 26th September will be assumed to have resigned.

Last Thursday night was our opening meeting of the new 2024-2025 season with an encouraging number of returning members along with several new recruits. So a HUGE WELCOME BACK !

Opening the meeting our Chair Wendy Bate gave a review of the Summer's past events including most recently, the PCC Exhibition in Penryn Town Hall on Fair Day. She mentioned that the various displays including PCC's successful entry in the Western Counties Photographic Federation and the Penryn Project were very well received by over 300 visitors and that the collection for the Falmouth Fire Brigade raised over £110 for their Three Peaks Challenge charity collection.

As you know every year the club encourages members of the public to engage with the prints that we exhibit by voting for "My Favourite Print". This year a total of 267 votes were counted with the winning ticket being drawn by pressie Geoff James. The lucky winner who selected Mark Quilter's print entitled "Snowy morning" was Margaret who was visiting from Taunton along with her daughter and Penryn resident Gail. They were later pretty chuffed to be presented with Mark’s print as shown in last week’s Newsletter.

Later, Wendy offered up a big thank you to all those who helped out with the various projects – you know who you are! She also made a presentation to Claire for her help in transporting the stands and various items we needed to make the Exhibition happen. Additionally our newer member Angela Thompson was presented with a small prize for her print “The Old Bird House” which received the most votes from our visitors.

The meeting also had presentations from our Competition Secretary Amanda Hanson, who detailed the various competition entries applicable for the upcoming season and answered several queries in the process. A copy of the current list will be enclosed with this Newsletter.

This was followed by Paul Cooper who gave a brief demonstration and reminder of the vast amount of information that is now on our website for members to use. Paul was specific in asking members to offer up some of their “Before and After” stories relating to the images that they have worked on. Just a couple of photos and a brief description would suffice. Paul also reminded members that if they see anything that needs correcting or if they can add to the website please feel free to contact him.

Karen was the next up and she mentioned the upcoming events on the social calendar listed below and informed members about a new WhatsApp group just for current PCC Information. Contact Karen if you wish to be included. Latest programme enclosed.

Karen also advised members of the Bonython Visit from last Wednesday and some photos of the visit are available on our Facebook page.

Derek Godridge ended the meeting with an expansive overview of the latest amended PCC Competition Rules. A few questions were answered and a late amendment was agreed. The final document will be emailed out to members and an abridged version will be available on the website under the “Documents” tab.

John Yarrow was also on hand to provide members with one-to-one familiarization of the new PhotoEntry System and will also be available NEXT WEEK. He is still offering Home Visits if needed. Contact details john.yarrow032@btinternet.com or T: 01872 521182 or M: 07832 485717

We have been asked by the local RBL if any of our members would be willing to help out with selling Poppies this year at Asda. It usually is a 2 hour slot and you are able to sit down by the door at Asda. It can be a bit chilly so you might want to wrap up.

You do not need to “sell” poppies, as it is not allowed to rattle the bucket, like the old days! People just come to the table and make their purchase with cash or there is a card reader which is easy to use. It is fantastic how generous people are.

Please let me know if you think you may be able to help RBL out this year. Kburton281@googlemail.com
