This week Penryn Camera Club entered a three way “battle” hosted by Truro, with images from Truro, Falmouth and Penryn battling for points. We were lucky with Derek Godridge winning the prints round outright.
Later we had Mandy’s lucky dip hand-in. We have had a month to take an image on a set subject drawn from a lucky dip. In a couple of weeks, we will vote on the winning shot.
The committee divided our members evening into two segments. Initially members took three random prints and had to critique them and place them in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. This was to help us all to see images as the judge sees them.
Afterwards, Derek took the images that the battle judge said needed cropping and cropped them live in front of us. We saw some images where simple cropping improved them. We also discovered the crop ratio is important as poor cropping can degrade the image.
