The Penryn Camera Club's talk this week was Simon Van Orden's Chasing the Northern Lights. Simon began his talk with some of the myths and legends surrounding the lights. His next step was to explain (using animated graphics) why they happened. The talk included a couple of slideshows with soundtracks to discuss how to take images, what to look for and the results. Simon peppered his talk with hard-won nuggets of information on what can go wrong and the most effective way to overcome those obstacles. This was a multi-layered experience; if you were into details they were abundant but if not you could sit back and enjoy the many and varied images of the Aurora Borealis. See WildEarthPictures.com for many more images.

Next week we'll be having a friendly photographic competition with neighbouring clubs, Truro and Falmouth. We each submit 20 images and an independent judge will award them points 1-10 culminating in a hopefully close competition with Penryn as the winner! Look here next week to find out.

You are welcome to join us (Thursdays, 19:30, The Penryn Athletic Football Club). You can contact us via our website penryncameraclub.co.uk.
